A mind tuned by the Spirit.

1 Cor. 2:14–16

The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, for,
“Who has known the mind of the Lord
so as to instruct him?”
But we have the mind of Christ.

God's word is truth. It proclaims his plan and his will. It tells what he's done.

But without the Holy Spirit, it's a bit like radio static. The message is confusing, strange, and impossible to comprehend.

God's Holy Spirit turns the dial. Through his word he tunes our hearts to understand the deep truths of his word.

And by faith, the parts that seem strange by human standards now have the most glory:

Like a man giving his life for you.

What makes God’s truth seem foolish to the world? What about God’s wisdom seems beautiful when the Spirit helps you see it?

Hosea 3:1 The Lord said to me, “Go, show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another man and is an adulteress. Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods..." Read the context The Prophet Hosea's wife was unfaithful. But God told Hosea to reconcile with her. Why? It would be an illustration for us of God's love: Our sin is faithlessness. Our rebellion shows our love for anything but God. We are an unfaithful spouse to God. Yet his love does not...

Romans 5:9–11 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Read the context What's the most expensive thing you've ever purchased? Your...

Romans 5:6–8 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Read the context Who would you be willing to die for? I'm guessing your list might be short: A friend... a child... a spouse... But what about someone who consistently wrongs you?...
