A refocused hope.

Luke 24:13–35

"The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel."

Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

Two disciples walked down the road. They thought they knew who Jesus was supposed to be: a hero from enemies... but it didn't pan out.

"I had hoped..."

Your voice echoes what those disciples said. So often what we hope for isn't the same as what God has promised. And that feels like a letdown.

Refocus your hope. That's what Jesus does for them. Your hope is not lost — it gives you life through an empty tomb.

Based on last night's sermon from Luke 24...

Why is the hope that Jesus brings better than anything you could ever expect from your God?

1 John 5:1-4 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
