Matthew 16:21-26

From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.

You can't tell Jesus what to do. So why "must" he do anything?

Because the cross is at the center of who he is. To live, suffer, and die for your sins is who he is.

And it's only when you understand the "must" of Jesus' cross that you can stand before your own: trials, troubles, and hardship aren't for you to avoid. God uses them to shape you. To remind you of your Savior.

When trouble comes, run to the cross.

Why is it difficult to think of suffering as spiritually "good"? How is the cross the only way to make sense of your crosses?
