Divine telephone.

John 16:12–15

“I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”

In a 10-person game of "telephone" the message is scrambled by the end. Once you tell someone to tell someone something, the message is in jeopardy.

The Holy Spirit is God's messenger, and the words won't be scrambled.

Since Jesus ascended into heaven, the Spirit has continued faithful work — bringing faith to generations through the Word of God.

And now as you read God's word, the Spirit relays the same message to you:

Jesus saves.

How does knowing that the "Spirit of truth" is at work in God's word change the level of trust you have in God's promises?

Romans 8:26–27 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. Read the context I know if it stood face-to-face with my favorite athlete, I wouldn't know what to say. Honestly, I'd likely say something foolish. Do you ever feel that way...

Joel 2:28-29 “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, — I will pour out my Spirit in those days. Read the context The prophets were a special group. It was only a few people that God would speak to throughout the Old Testament. On Pentecost, God's Holy Spirit made prophets out of a crowd. The disciples proclaimed the wonders of God to...

John 7:37–39 On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. Read the context The water reserves were almost empty. There were just a few drops...
