It matters who is in the boat.

Matthew 14:22-33

Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

Twelve men... several of them fishermen... caught terrified in a storm. Even in good company these men felt alone.

They needed the help of another.

Three words make all the difference for the disciples — not "Don't be afraid..."

"It is I."

Jesus is the only one who can make this moment right. He's the only one who can come into the boat alongside your mess and make a difference.

You're not alone. The same "It is I" is right next to you.

Based on last night's sermon from Matthew 14...

Where are the places where you've found yourself feeling spiritually alone and overwhelmed? How does having Jesus "in the boat" make the difference in those moments?
