No decay in the graveyard.

Psalm 16:9–11

Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; — my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay.

You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

The living can do very little in a graveyard. You can plant flowers or clean a tombstone, but you can't stop the decay below ground.

God can. Long before Jesus walked this earth this Psalm promised the resurrection — that God would not let his servant see decay.

Just three days... then the tomb was empty.

It may be longer for you or someone you love, but know this:

One day God will give life again that doesn't lead to decay.

What makes the promise of resurrection one worth waiting for?

For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. Read the context Death is a cruel boss. It always wants your attention... You're always working to avoid it... and there's no payoff! Jesus died once so that death would no longer be in charge. Since he left...

Isaiah 25:6–9 On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine— the best of meats and the finest of wines. On this mountain he will destroy — the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; he will swallow up death forever. Read the context Death is the great equalizer. The richest man who ever lives might have a fancier tomb, but death covers every life. It blankets over this world like an overcast day....

John 20:14–16 [Mary] turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”). Read the context You react differently when you hear your name. In a crowd...
