The last voice at a funeral.



John 11:43–44

When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face.

Everyone's wearing black. The whole family stands near the casket.

What should you say?

Death has a loud voice at a funeral. It reminds everyone that this world is broken and painful.

But another voice drowns out death.

The voice that raised Lazarus from the dead speaks at the Christian funeral.

Jesus promises to call every believer back to life. Death is not the victor.

What grim realities about life on this earth does a funeral bring to the bare? Why are human reactions to these realities underwhelming?
