Generosity in secret.

Matthew 6:2–4

So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

The celebrity hands over a giant check with cameras rolling. The gift is real...but so is the publicity.

Jesus isn't against generosity. He's warning against the pride that sneaks in when you give for applause.

Inspect your heart: Are you giving out of love, or are you hoping someone notices? Even good gifts can be hurt by the desire for praise.

Give quietly. Give generously. Let your Father, who sees in secret, be the only audience that matters.

Jesus says,"Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing."
What's one way you could give this week that's truly between you and God without any recognition or credit?

2 Sam. 11:26-27 When Uriah’s wife heard that her husband was dead, she mourned for him. After the time of mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing David had done displeased the Lord. Read the context Often sin leads to more sin. David's lust lead to adultery, led to lying, led to murder. But even if the dominoes don't fall that far, don't be fooled — hiding sin is always more harmful than bringing it to light. Why?...

1 Thess. 4:9–12 Now about your love for one another we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. And in fact, you do love all of God’s family throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers and sisters, to do so more and more, and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be...

Matthew 5:43–46 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? Read the context Quid pro quo is not Jesus' way. Jesus' death is not...
