God's Word is Your Defense!

Luke 4:1–4

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.

The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’

Right after the fireworks of Jesus' baptism, he goes to a spiritual wasteland: Forty straight days of temptations from the devil.

But the devil doesn't win. The Son of God uses the Word to fight off the devil's attacks.

This life often feels like a spiritual wasteland. And when you face temptation you are locked in a battle.

But Jesus won, and that means you win. And you can use the same weapon he used to battle temptation.

What is one way you might use God's word to fight against temptations today?

I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. John 4:13–14 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” Read the context You know the feeling... you worked for it, earned it, achieved it. And it still left you empty. Success, approval, comfort fill you up just long enough to make you thirsty again. Jesus doesn't tell you to dig deeper or try harder. Chasing...
