If not David... then who?

Acts 2:29-32

“Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it.

Who's the best leader you've ever followed? A boss, parent, coach?

For the Israelite, one name rose to the top: King David. Even hundreds of years later his reign was viewed as the "glory days."

But his reign ended... Could anything compare?

A king who would descend from David came — not to bring earthly peace, but victory over death.

Jesus is king. He defeated death for you in his resurrection. You live in the reign of the greatest king.

Why is it difficult to view Jesus as "reigning" right now? How does his resurrection prove he's the greatest leader?

Stop doubting and believe.” Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Read the...

Psalm 16:9–11 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; — my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay. You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Read the context The living can do very little in a graveyard. You can plant flowers or clean a tombstone, but you can't stop the decay below ground. God can. Long...

Romans 6:8–10 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. Read the context Death is a cruel boss. It always wants your attention... You're always working to avoid it... and there's no payoff! Jesus died once so that death would no longer be in charge. Since he left...
