Not unlike you.

Numb. 20:10-12

Then Moses... said to them, “Hear now, you rebels: shall we bring water for you out of this rock?” And Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his staff twice, and water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their livestock.

And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe in me, to uphold me as holy in the eyes of the people of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them.”

Moses had clear instructions: "Speak to the rock, and I will provide water."

In anger he disobeyed the Lord. Even this great leader of the Israelites was a sinner.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that pastors or church leaders are without sin. God calls people with sin and flaws to lead his people.

Instead, pray for them: Pray that God would remind spiritual leaders of the need for daily repentance.

Pray that confession and absolution be at the center of the church's work.

What would it change in how you relate to your spiritual leaders if you prayed for them as sinners in need of grace, the same as yourself?

Hosea 6:1–3 “Come, let us return to the Lord.He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us;he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds. After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence.Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him.As surely as the sun rises, he will appear;he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” Read the context The surgeon carefully creates incisions...

1 Timothy 1:15-17 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen. Read the context He was a...

Matthew 9:10-13 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Read the context If you wrote the...
