Send me?

Isaiah 6:5–8

“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”

And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

It's the first day on the job, and your boss asks for someone to lead a new project. You feel completely underqualified. Why would you raise your hand?

Isaiah felt the same standing before a holy God: "Woe to me! I am ruined!"

But God didn't send Isaiah because he was prepared. He sent him because he was made clean.

Your unclean lips have been touched too. You're underqualified — we all are. But you're forgiven, and that's enough for God to send you.

What weakness keeps you from saying "Here am I, send me"? How does the Gospel answer that doubt or weakness?

Matt. 9:35, 10:7–8 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. Read the context Before Jesus ever sent his disciples out, he had already gotten his own hands dirty: healing the sick,...

Matthew 9:36–38 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Read the context Lawns left uncut. Carafes crusted with old coffee. Laundry sitting in the dryer for a week. Psalm 100 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.Know that the Lord is God.It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Read the context Sheep. Not shepherds. We didn't choose the Lord... HE chose us and made us. It wasn't because of who you are, but because of who the Lord is. You are his sheep. That's something worth singing about! Come before the Lord with gladness knowing that you are...
