The Everyday Sabbath

Romans 8:14–17

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.
And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

"Can I take your word for it?" If you have to ask if someone is trustworthy, maybe you have your answer already.

I want with all my heart to tell God, "I'm your child!" But my same lips are stained with sin and lying. Why should he take me at my word?

He doesn't. Your claim as God's child is not your own... It's the claim of the Spirit who testifies to your sonship.

You are united with Christ in his holiness, and the Spirit's assurance is far better than your word.

When sin or shame makes you doubt your place in God's family, what does it look like to lean on the Spirit's testimony rather than your own feelings?
