What's New at Beautiful Savior | Sept 15

Here's what's new at

Beautiful Savior Oakley...

But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them.
— Genesis 50:19–21

The Weight We Aren't Meant to Hold

It had been years since Joseph’s brothers hurt him. It was as bad as it gets — they sold him as a slave and told their father he had been killed. Could you blame him if he wanted to get payback?

Do you blame his brothers for expecting payback?

I don’t know which side you relate to more in this story — Joseph or his brothers — but I do know you know this: When someone is wronged, forgiveness is rare. When a person is wronged, revenge, grudges, and hatred feel green-lit. But just because someone hurts you doesn’t mean that your response won’t be sin.

Forgiveness is not a concession nor is it forgetting a hurt. It’s releasing the wrong to the one who it actually belongs to. Forgiveness is saying, “God, I know that you have forgiven me. I know you forgive them. This belongs to you.”

That’s Joseph’s perspective. It’s how he could see God’s hand even in the wrong his brothers did. And when you forgive and speak to a fearful or hurt heart, God is using you to point that person to the cross. What was intended for harm, God still uses for good.

This week… consider…

➡️ How does knowing that you’re forgiven help you to forgive?

➡️ What relationship do you need to show forgiveness in right now?

Matthew 18:21–35

How easy is it for you to forgive? If your answer is "it depends," you're not alone — and this week we look at why. Jesus tells a story about a servant forgiven an impossible debt who won't forgive a small one, and it might change how you think about the grudges you're still holding.

Looking for a devotion for your every day?

I want to share an exciting project I've been a part of: a free app called Open Book. Every day it shares a section of Scripture for you to read and reflect on.

Open Book was created to help lifelong Christians and new believers alike commit to a Bible study habit. It teaches you how to interact with Scripture on both a personal and academic level by striking a balance between devotional encouragement and textual exposition.
