What's New at Beautiful Savior | Sept 8

Here's what's new at

Beautiful Savior Oakley...

“If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’
“Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
— Matthew 18:15-20

An awkward confrontation…

Do you like telling people, “You are wrong”? Maybe. I think with the anonymity of the internet people are much more willing to voice their thoughts loudly (good or bad… true or untrue…)

What about face-to-face with someone you care about? Thaaaaaat’s when you’d much rather let something slide. You’d prefer to either hold a grudge if they hurt you or ignore the wrong if you weren’t directly impacted. If it’s personal, then you believe confrontation = bad.

That’s not how Jesus views it. Here’s why: Sin is sin… is sin. Whether it hurt you or not, unaddressed sin can damage a person’s relationship with God. The danger isn’t hurt feelings… It’s eternity we’re worried about here.

That’s what makes the hard stuff so important. To address sin is to care for the soul of someone else. There’s nothing more loving than that. In the end the goal isn’t to be right or to have moral high ground… it’s to use that second key Jesus is talking about — to loose (forgive) sin to the person who repents.

The same God who didn’t leave sin unaddressed calls for you to also address sin — whether yours or someone else’s. He has the forgiveness they need!

This week… consider…

➡️ Is an unaddressed sin hurting your relationship with someone else? Their (or your) relationship with God? Why do you hesitate to talk about it?

➡️ What would it look like to bring them (or yourself!) to the foot of the cross?

Looking for a devotion for your every day?

I want to share an exciting project I've been a part of: a free app called Open Book. Every day it shares a section of Scripture for you to read and reflect on.

Open Book was created to help lifelong Christians and new believers alike commit to a Bible study habit. It teaches you how to interact with Scripture on both a personal and academic level by striking a balance between devotional encouragement and textual exposition.
