With joyful anticipation.

Luke 12:35–37

“Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them.

The kids lean over the edge of the couch anticipating their grandparents' arrival. The excitement is contagious.

Christians are called to live each day in eager expectation of Jesus' return... But often reluctance feels more realistic.

His return is for your good though! When Jesus returns, he will make all things new. And you already know he loves you.

After all, it's your savior you're looking forward to seeing.

Based on last night's sermon from Luke 12:35–40...

Jesus assures you he is returning soon.

What keeps you from a proper focus on his return? Why is his return more exciting than intimidating?

Acts 17:30–31 "In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. The empty tomb proves to you that God has set his plan into place. He calls all people to look to the cross and...

Acts 17:24–25 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else." Read the context Paul could see the idols the Athenians worshiped. They were searching for something to trust. Carved statues don't fill our stores, but people still lean on idols — money, relationships,...
