A God of Promises.

Genesis 18:11–14

Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?”

Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’ Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”

They’d been waiting on God’s promise for years. From what they could see, it didn’t make sense. Already too old for children—how could God still keep this promise?

But the Lord refocused Abraham and Sarah on what mattered: his promise, not their circumstances.

What you see around you can easily distract from what God has said. When fears, doubts, or questions creep in, return to his Word.

God’s promises in Jesus will never fail you.

What circumstances tempt you to doubt what God has said?

1 Sam. 16:6–7 When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord.” But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Read the context Samuel knew what a king looked like: Tall, strong, warrior-like. Or at least he thought he knew. But he saw the wrong thing. He...

1 Sam. 12:23–24 As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right. But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you. Read the context Samuel's farewell speech sounds like his other words: focussed on the Lord and on his deliverance. He didn't want the people to forget. There are many things you can pass on — a house, business,...

He cried out to the...
