Down from the mountain.

Matthew 17:2–5

There [Jesus] was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.

Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

There are some moments you don't want to leave behind—a perfect vacation, a day of celebration. But you can't stay there forever.

Peter wants to set up camp in this glorious moment. Can you blame him? Jesus' face is shining like the sun!

But God interrupts: Listen to him!

Because the glory Peter saw wasn't the end... it was pointing forward to another mountain, Calvary, where Jesus would give his life for the world.

Don't just marvel at Jesus' glory. Listen to him. Follow him... even to the cross.

Based on last night's sermon from Matthew 17...

Where are you most tempted to pitch a tent that can’t last?

Jesus came down from the mountaintop for you. How does his choice to walk toward the cross show you God’s love?

Matthew 6:2–4 So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Read the context The celebrity hands over a giant check with cameras...

2 Sam. 11:26-27 When Uriah’s wife heard that her husband was dead, she mourned for him. After the time of mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing David had done displeased the Lord. But even if the dominoes don't fall that far, don't be fooled — hiding sin is always more harmful than bringing it to light. Why?...
