Set apart and sent.

Exodus 19:3b–6

“This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.”

God's Old Testament people — the Israelites — weren't set apart just for themselves. God was using them to bring salvation to all people.

Today, God's people span every corner of the earth... but his plan hasn't changed. He sends his people as priests — messengers to the world.

God love stretches through you to those who you proclaim the gospel to.

You are his plan for spreading this good news to all the earth!

Why is it humbling to think of yourself as a messenger of God? How does this reshape conversations you think of as "ordinary"?

1 Peter 2:9–10 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Matthew 5:13–16 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds...

Psalm 112:6–7 Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever. They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Read the context The phone rings in the middle of the night. Your boss asks for a one-on-one. You feel bad news coming. But the things that feel big can be small. You can't be shaken. Your eternity is held in the hands of a loving God. Your life belongs to him. Bad news is still bad. But you have the best news of all to...
